how to begin...........

i have selected a magazine picture that centers upon a big face. faces can be intimidating to paint. the first step is to tear it out and lay it flat on your work space. next sand the face lightly so that it will accept paint - if you don't then the paint will bead up and roll off, making color blending (a very important process) a real hell.
i will continue with more steps in the future........i will show the next steps tomorrow.
(sorry about the blurry pics)

Hi Lisa! I wanted to stop by and let you know that I saw your work at the Municipal Gallery and I love it!! I so wish I could take your class in June but I will be out of town that weekend. I live near Dixon Lake in Escondido. I want to submit some of my work to the gallery in the future, but it is very scary for me..Ha! You know, fear of rejection and all. Anyway, I love your blog as well and am now a subscriber through Google Reader. Keep of the great work; you are a true inspiration!

welcome shonna:

we are all afraid of rejection - i went through that fear for at least a year after i started submitting to be juried. part of being an artist is being brave. "just do it" as they say. as for me i had to do it in order to quiet the little voices in my head that were encouraging me to do it. yep, i have those (needling) voices as well as the negative voices - i bet you do too.

Thanks Lisa, I needed to hear that! I think I'm just going to go for it. My motto for this year is "move" so I think I need to take my own advice. Thanks again!
