McClure dons a dunce's hat, Ginsberg is wearing an Indian head dress and Dylan....
well, Dylan is just Dylan-- wearing his hair, nose and glasses.  what more do you want?  I wish I had a better photo of this painting, it is sold now - to whom, i don't know.

swimsuit ad......

really there is nothing to this except a bit of staining on top of a black and white photocopy, some paint added in a messy fashion.  cream color on top of green for the background - pull some paint off with a stamp.  scribble into background with other end of the brush.  leave odd details like partially cutoff legs as is.  add a funky hat.

we are very proud of rosie.  she qualified 2nd in 200 breaststroke but in finals took 4th.  ah, never-mind rosie, the important thing is you made finals.  and did your best time.

better luck next time.  proud parents.

swimming.....

i know most of you do not have outdoor swimming on your mind right now, but here in sunny san diego........ok, ok, i won't brag about the weather.
today will be the last day of a grueling 4 day championship swim meet for my daughter rosie.  the swim meet has heats and finals - saturday we were poolside from 7 a..m. to 7 p.m.  this is very hard on my husband and i.  oh and rosie too, i guess!
it's a national ranked meet in la jolla.  teams have been bused here from all over the state.
today rosie has her best event, 200 yards breaststroke.  we shall she what she does.
 
high school swim starts this week too.  we will then have even more meets to attend.

redo xmas wrapping.......new project

this one has that "noel" paper i painted the other day as a wild backdrop.  i flipped the paper upside down so that the word noel could not be read easily.

this one of my dad reading to me is kind of a flop because we sort of blend in too much, i think. 

but  at least this illustrates what i mean about using the papers as new collage elements.

wrapping paper redo........before and after...

wrapping paper indicating my daughters love of dalmatians when she was in kindergarten in 2000.  i liked it but i wanted something a bit more vintage looking and softer.

maybe not wonderful, but at least it has my palette.  i could use this as background to a vintage portrait of a child.

xmas wrapping paper from 1980's....

what would happen if i painted it like this:

nothing much except now i could easily use this in one of my painting as background element.  again it has my very own palette and my very own weird brush strokes.

finally,

this handsome gray-toned paisley, i decided to eliminate a lot of background and make it an even more handsome earth tone.

 with and without colored interior paisley design.

so this might not have produced my best work ever, but i enjoyed the experiment and the surprise the change made.

scrapbook paper redo........

i love dots, all shapes and sizes.  i found this paper today in my cache.  it was created for xmas, red ,green, white. i wanted to customize it. first i drew circles, then other designs, finally i painted on top and changed most of the color altogether.   its fun and also helps me make use of paper i would not have used.

i used this as a demo at our paris retreat 2008.  er, linda was there too.  a big 4 page spead article about it and my student's art too, in last years somerset studio - i think it was around august

valentine ATC.....

ATC (artist trading cards) are the same size as baseball  cards.  they are small works of original art that artist trade with one another.   they are fun and quick to make.   i thought it would be nice to make a valentine ATC everyday until valentine's day.  collages are a blast to put together.  i just look around me for bits of paper and other elements  to create with (kinda like making a bird's nest - well, only flat).  once i decide on the composition i paste things down on the right sized card (2.5" x 3.5") and add a  sweetheart sentiment.
