chicago! here i come!

i have never been to chicago, so i am excited  to be teaching a workshop (family paintover) in a few weeks, september 16.
i will be teaching in an area called elmhurst.  or at least that is where my host the lovely and talented linda weber lives.   i met linda in paris as she came to the paris retreat 2008.   we became fast friends.  well, whats not to love about linda.  and she is an avid paintover artist.

if you live in the  CHICAGO area and are interesting in joining in the upcoming 4 hour workshop, email me.  (paypal button on my sidebar, $65).   there's still plenty of room as we are meeting in a big museum.
email me for more details or contact linda weber at 4 nutballs@ameritech.net

BTW, i host the 3 day paris retreat with my art buddy renee richetts. (this year our retreat will be late dec. we are hoping for the new year's celebration atop the eiffle tower and we have included a third teacher, pam carriker).  cost only $450 for the 3 day workshop

ATC fun......

ATCs (artist trading cards) are works of art the size of a baseball trading card.  artists create them primarily to trade with one another.  but some artists sell their cards as well.  many die-hard ATC artists do not sanction selling them.
probably the most important factor involved with ATCs is the trading of them.  the act of trading them face to face is what some ATC artists describe as THE art itself or art happening that is central.   these are called trading sessions.  the idea is that a large group of artists meet with multiple cards in hand (the cards can be all different or all the same - duplicates) and look around and trade with whomever they like.  in the trading sessions i have been to, the artists usually lay their cards out on a table.  the cards are protected in baseball card sleeves (plastic).  you walk around looking when you see something you just have to have...you take a card/ leave a card.
there is another group of artists who do ATCs for sell, these are called ACEO (art card editions and originals) they can be found on ebay by the thousands.   prices range from cents to hundreds of dollars depending on the artist.
although they are called artist trading cards, you do NOT have to be an artist.  any medium may be used and any surface as long as the dimensions are 2/12" x 31/2".
i have seen them made of glass, fabric, plastic, metal, etc.  beginners often start by doing straight up collage, stuff they have clipped from a magazine and glued to a blank as seen by my work above.
i did a series of cards recently that were inspired merely by the idea of valentine candy sayings.  i was inspired by the single words or short sayings. see above the word "always" is one of them.    others i have shared on facebook.

four panel "girl totem" acrylic and paper.  mounts vertically or like this.  appeared in a stampington publication.

remember the stampington launch party last year?   its hard to believe it was only last year - seems years ago.  now jenny doh has split off and started her online publication/network called crescendoh!.
i have been invited by jenny to be a guest curator.  o certainly am not the first to be a guest curator but i will be one of the few who are giving their story via video.

i'm a winner! grumbacher awarded me 2nd place....

for having the most students in all michaels classes.   i tied for second.  anyway as a prize i was awarded a set of their new MAX water miscible oil colors.  what a nice selection.  i am going to try them out right now since it is too hot to use my acrylics.   i hope they behave the way they are suppose to - if so, i might switch for good.  i will keep you posted.
they are suppose to feel and act just like oil paints yet thin and cleanup with water - they are professional grade.  not safe around children as they have some pigment toxins as most quality paints do.

the winner of my facebook art challenge...

by Kim Tedrow's bathing beauty.  every once in awhile i hold a challenge on the lisa bebi art facebook page.  the winner wins a painting of mine.  fair enough, right?
i make up a topic and give the participants about a month to jpeg something to me so that i can upload it on my facebook page.  this time the theme was retro bathing beauties, last time it was the color orange.
i get lots of amazing work with interesting descriptions of their personal techniques.  its very cool.
if you have a facebook account, "friend" me if you would like to take part in the challenges or simply see whats going on.  if you don't have a facebook account but would like one - they are free and easy to follow directions on how to become a member.
i have 2 accounts.   one is my personal account called lisa bebi and the other is the art account called lisa bebi art.   that way i don't bore my die-hard art friends with stories about my family and life.  and i don't bore my personal friends with a list of my upcoming workshops.  makes sense, right?
so congrats to kim tedrow from nebraska.  i really liked your flame red piece.

brand new artist..never shown before...

once in a while a new artist comes along and really takes my breath away.  this is anita rose.  she has been painting in her closet for a number of years, not showing anyone beyond family.
when i saw her work my jaw dropped.  watercolor is a medium that requires one to "work it and let it".  generally my experience has been that an untrained newbie artist will have stiff work - or an overworked piece.
not anita rose.

anita is an intuitive painter - she puts paint down then watches and waits to "hear" what it says to her then she decides how to go from there.  it's like she helps the watercolor paint itself - she a mere guide for creators from beyond the heavens.  she is a conduit.  its not easy letting that happen.  i know i have looked for artists like her for years.
does this not look like the painting appear on its own accord?  thats how i view it.

anita rose is a tender soul - quiet, unassuming,  physically small in size.
if you saw her you might not even notice her.  but the well of her spirit runs deep.

she genuinely wants good for all of her family, sweethearted to her core.  she is even a poet.  i love her deeply.  you see, anita rose is my cousin.

please join me in welcoming her to the art world.  love, lisa

webstream demo art

this image did not come out as it looks in person - in person the skin does not appear yeloow.  perhaps it came out like this because i photoed it on my deep red carpet.  i will photo it again in the morning and see.
but anyway......i just want to thank you for watching me on the webcast -  i really had no idea what that was going to be like - it's community TV that was filming for local TV to air at a later date after editing, etc. but for the first time they decided to also stream it so that is why you saw everything.

admit i was stressed waiting for it to go "live" because they were running late and i had told everyone the air time was 8:00 p.m. - it actually started to air around 8:20, i think.
but get this, there were 3 cameras and since it is community tv -  volunteers operate everything.   there were two little girls ages 9 and 13 on operating 2 of the 3 cameras.  incredible.  i was totally impressed with them.
so anyway - they asked me to come back.....
they asked me back.... lisa

flurry of work.......

look at my clean table.
yeah, yeah it was clean the day before my daughter started back to school and remain fairly clean during summer break.  i swear.
but she was back just one day -now look.
my productivity level increased 1000 fold.
my husband was sure surprised when he came home last night.
i did clear it off for dinner.  sort of.
