red dobie love....

this piece was created for the same fundraiser - recognizing the need for shelter for animals.
i love my red dobie, dempsey.  i feel doberman's should be represented too.

for a worthy cause....

this cat's name is cupcake.  she is going out today for a special fundraiser - animal rescue.

i painted her these colors because i think she sees herself as these vibrant color - at least on the inside.

fodder art challenge....

on facebook, i have a fan page called lisa bebi art.  it is from my studio.
the studio has placed a challenge call out for anyone to make ATCs from fodder from lisa bebi studio  (LBS).  the ATC or ATCs must be submitted by either  jpeg or snail mail by the deadline date. The ATCs will be judged and a winner selected.
the prize is a lovely lisa bebi original painting. (see previous posts for the prize).  The winner will be posted on the lisa bebi fanpage site.

_________

so i have been getting some great art in the mail.  this one was so special because it is not only a clever and great minature work of art,  but also it gave me goosebumps as well as slayed me through the heart because..... there was a note floating inside that read "i love you".   i am a true sucker for those three words.

so this piece is a beautiful pendant created out of old watercolor papers by colleague Jill K. Berry.  jill's is mostly famous for her fabulous calligraphy art.  if you don't know her work, you might try goggling her.  but also stay tuned because she is about to release another great book.

fodder challenge details, to do list:
1.  get studio fodder from lisa bebi studio (LBS) by requesting it no later than apri 15 (sorry too late) but you can still do it by going to the lisa bebi art facebook fanpage and looking up the word fodder in the photo section. it has details of the challenge and also a couple of fodder collage sheets for you to download and use.

Paris workshop......

sneak peek ....Paris, France workshop december 29, 30 and 31, 2010!!!!

Renee Richetts, Lisa Bebi and Pam Carriker together doing a 3 day workshop in Paris - in the Sacred Heart section of Paris

(where is the Sacred Heart part of Paris: think of artists oil painting on the hillside streets of Paris and just steps from the Moulon Rouge).

Photoed here is our studio in Paris - in addition to this pic, there is another room, an artist studio with a large glass ceiling.
can't wait.  we decided to go after christmas because its cheaper for fares.   Paris is lovely around xmas time, the Effiel tower is breathtaking with holiday lights (get your new years eve tix NOW for the Effiel tower party) and also the huge paris-wide sales start just the following week!

a trip of a lifetime: three days with the three of us is just $450.00.  also we will be available to walk around the town during the rest of the week.
renee and my husband, gastone, are great chefs and will be preparing your meals while taking classes.  They also both speak fluent french and will guide us through the streets of paris, flea markets, art galleries, shopping and eating and drinking.
get your passports ready, your cashmere coats and mittens and a cute little wool hat -you might want to wait to buy those handsome boots in Paris.  as a token reminder of your trip.  so come on -  we have Paris to do!

about the workshops:  all materials and supplies are provided by the instructors - you will not have to lug them to europe.   that, right there, makes it easy to come, my opinion.
email re4nee for details - she will help you with info on getting there and staying longer, etc.
rrichetts@cox.net
there are small studios that rent for cheap in our area.
because it is school break, i will be bringing my 16 year old daughter - Pam is bringing her son(s).  its a wonderful experience for them too.

patron saints project...

i was fortunate to be involved in  large collaboration with 12 other great artists.  the patron saint project.  we each chose a saint and made a shrine or house for that saint - then we sent these shrines into a large round robin.

we each created a saint a month for 13 months placing the saint of the month into whose ever shrine we had t that time.  the shrine rotated in the group in a large circle moving once a month.
this is my st. kevin which was lisa guerin's chosen saint.  i don't remember whose shrine he went in.
i hope this makes sense.
anyway, we were free to interpret that saint by his or her attributes and paint or collage whatever way we saw fit.
i loved the project.  i am proud to have participated in it.  i hope to one day show you everything we did.

advanced issue of somerset studio - this just in....

i love this new issue.  i enjoyed drawing suing my left hand - i had taken a workshop from theo ellsworth at artfest in 2008.  this is it.  fun fun - also in the magazine is an article by my friend and colleague, artist  renee richetts on her "SPAM - altars and reliquaries"

at the Currant last night

Last night at the Currant restaurant downtown, the artist reception.
Laura Riker is with me.  She is my lovely new apprentice and assistant.  Above is my newly installed piece called "Ringling Field Trip" - which is a relative of "ringling road trip" that sold last month.

“Ringling Field Trip”-- 60” x 48” acrylic and paper on canvas, $2,800.

This is a painting taken for a small snapshot of my mom and her two brothers enjoying the sights in San Diego while riding around in a convertible in 1950.   They are all gone now - but not really.  They carry on riding that convertible in the sky enjoying the sights still.  The painting had a comedic feel so i felt compelled to make them a circus family having an outing.

I love to create from small family snapshots and transform them into a large sized story.  Usually the images within the paintings are at odds with one another or at a strange or unexpected juxtapose.  This is my humor.

lisa:  i am honored to have cheryl tall's paintings debut in my gallery space.  she is an exceptional artist/sculptress who has found her love of painting once again after a 20 year hiatus.

Cheryl Tall began her art career as a painter, and then worked with clay for twenty years so that she could create her large iconic figurative sculptures. When she took a class with Lisa Bebi two years ago, it reawakened her painting desires. She began to make one painting a month, using Lisa's technique as well as others. This exhibition, "Cheryl Tall: New Work" shows several exciting paintings from this series, and also some of Tall's signature ceramic sculptures.
