Join me at Michaels Art store for lessons in fine art painting: landscape, 101...

a simple landscape with lots of color - another beginner fine art painting class i will be teaching this month (april) in area michaels art/craft stores - san diego area.  check out my schedule on my sidebar.   in these workshops, students will be using 5 or 6 colors of acrylic paints, two sizes of paintbrushes and a palette on a canvas board.  within the 2 hour workshop the student will learn how to create a believable skyscape, mix colors, learn how to make colors "pop" by using of complementary colors and how to effectively use painting tools.
call the Michaels nearest you for a space in these workshops.  Space is very limited to small groups.  These workshops are offered in Michaels Poway, Clairemont Mesa and Midway Drive in San Diego during the month of April.

my Michaels workshops

a simple floral arrangement painting.

as a Grumbacher workshop instructor at area Michaels i will be teaching a series of beginner fine art painting classes.  In the first workshop I will teach people who have never painted before - how to mix colors, create depth, shadow and variances in shades in this simple floral painting.  the workshop is 2 hours in the Michaels - (see sidebar for time and place) the cost is $45 - you get large tubes of paints, a canvas board and 2 paintbrushes,  a palette knife as well as my instruction.  its a very good deal.
so come to my class, i am expecting you!  call Michaels on either Midway drive, clairemont mesa or Poway for your class.  I hope to see you there.  All is happening the month of April.

just got my advanced issue of somerset Memories...

Paintovers in Paris...
ever want to know what it would be like to take an informal artists workshop in Paris, France?
Take a look.  it is so cool and fulfilling to be in Paris with other artists - we worked, shopped, went to galleries, cooked, ate, laughed together.  it was cozy and informal.  that was march 2008.  we, metal pop artist renee richetts and i will be doing it again - december 2010.  its the cheapest and most satisfying way to take a workshop abroad.

come be with us for a week.  great shopping starts in paris jan. 6, BTW.

both renee and my husband gastone speak fluent french and are always ready to go on any adventure during workshop downtimes.  my young daughter rosie is learning french as well.

new set of paintings......

just a couple of painting of a new style i am experimenting with - it is painting that looks like the color are very saturated - if that makes sense.  but they are actually painted that way.

not digitally enhanced or changed.  did it work?   what do you think?

bigass painting of "max, the party animal" - sold

the Currant restaurant downtown san diego.
this painting is going to be living in canada now.  bye bye Max.  for those of you who don't know this, Max is/was my dad (god rest his soul)  he was a bit of a flirt - i think he flirted his way into this nice lady's home  - who lives in canada.
just my theory.

the painting is 6 ' x 4 ' - pretty big for someone's home.

florals and landscapes

i will be teaching as a Grumbacher affiliate- fine art workshops in area (san diego) Michaels for the month of April.  This is my launch with Grumacher paints.   For my workshop you will learn to paint a fine art landscape or floral (i alternate between 4 compositons, 2 florals and 2 landscapes). y ou will also get a kit which includes 2 paint brushes : a flat and one round, 1 palette knife and 5 or 6 large tubes of grumbacher acrylic paint plus a canvas board 9" x 12" as well as my instruction on painting.  it is well worth the money (approx. $45 for kit and class).  so if you live in the san diego area, please check out these workshops.  most of them are held during the day - some at night (midway- sports arena area).  if i get enough interest, i will schedule more in different parts of the san diego area and at different times.  youwill be able to book me for your private workshop or out of town workshop.  something to think about.   more later.

HIGH SCHOOL SPRING PREVIEWS

Girls swimming | PARMENTER SEEKS GRAND FINALE

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 17, 2010 AT 12:02 A.M.
In the spotlight: San Marcos senior Nicole Parmenter (left) looks to set a San Diego Section record in the 100-yard backstroke for the third straight record and add her third consecutive Division II title in the 100 butterfly. “I’d really like to better my records and go out with a good senior year,” said Parmenter, who will attend Cal. She also established a section record in the 100 fly in last year’s section meet, but it was broken hours later by La Costa Canyon’s Kendyl Stewart in the Division I competition. Parmenter helped San Marcos place 10th at the section meet for the first top 10 showing in school history.
Others to watch: Haren Alanis (La Jolla), Katie Anderson (Rancho Bernardo), Andrea Basaraba (Bishop’s), Rosa Bebi (Helix), Kimberi Boone (Cathedral Catholic), Katherine Bowersox (Rancho Bernardo), Nicole Bustamante (Mt. Carmel), Erin Cox (Point Loma), Allison DePeralta (Torrey Pines), Monica Dornick (Carlsbad), Haley Ferrer (Our Lady of Peace), Haley Francois (Rancho Bernardo) diving, Jenna Harris (Cathedral Catholic), Jessica Heim (Horizon), Madi Lanz (Ramona), Chandra Lukes (San Pasqual), Allie Knight (La Jolla), Roni Meyer (Granite Hills), Justine Panian (Mission Hills), Riley Peterman (Monte Vista), Chi Pham (Westview), Eva Pold (Torrey Pines), Riley Spitser (Rancho Bernardo), Mikkel-Ane Stipe (La Costa Canyon), Breann Stevens (Ramona), Kendyl Stewart (La Costa Canyon), Allison Tomkinson (Carlsbad), Andrea Voigt (Eastlake), Chelsea Weedman (Cathedral Catholic).
Outlook: Carlsbad goes for a repeat championship in Division I after claiming its first title ever a year ago. Perennial powers Rancho Bernardo and Torrey Pines should challenge. In Division II, Cathedral Catholic seeks its third straight title and fourth in five years, pushed by Mt. Carmel and La Jolla.

something for arnold grummer

i have a small affiliation with the arnold grummer paper company - you know from CHA the handmade paper devices they sell - they also sell a lovely array of things to put in your paper making like flower pods, dried leaves, fibers, etc.  more recently they created a chipboard book with removeable papers - those books are what i demo-ed at CHA this year.
now there is going to be a book out, an autobiography,  about arnold's life, so i have the honor of creating a few art pieces to go in the book.  so here he is on his wedding day.  i used his own handmade paper made from old newspaper, collage bits, dotted swiss fabric piece, textured paper he created underneath - a tiny bit of paintover on the photo.

pics from the gARTage sale today and words from ruthie 66...

www.voicesinmybighead.blogspot.com

ruthie 66 (nina) was a radio personality for about 20 years here in san diego - she came to the gARTage sale today - these are her pics and her words:

I would love to see this as the beginning of a new trend. I know many artists who are also in the midst of spring cleaning, so maybe we could have more group garage sales in San Diego. In fact, why limit it to San Diego?

meredith and me (i have bedhead) and
good shopperkathy olsen - happy as evergood friends from our art world hilari ford and diane chin
bet and hilariribbons and fiber nina bought for little (this box of ribbons was $1.magazines nina got for a dime each.other things nina got for pennies.

nina continues: Why not start a nationwide trend and get artists together, who are committed to stamping out clutter from their homes and art studios and have them team up and sell their art supplies to other artists and craftsmen?! Are you game?
read more of what nina had to say on her blog.
